VACANCY Embedded Software Engineer

Timespace Technology, the leading UK manufacturer of Digital Video Recorders for mobile and covert security, is recruiting for the position of Embedded Software Engineer. Our development office and production facility are based in Huntingdon and we are expanding. We need skilled and dedicated staff to support the creation of high technology electronics systems.

Embedded Software Engineer

Reporting to the Embedded Software Manager, the appointed candidate will work in a small team of embedded software engineers.

The role includes:

Writing software for new features and new products.
Improving legacy software (including bug fixes).
Testing existing products.
Documenting code and their test requirements.

The successful candidate will most likely be degree-qualified with an electronic engineering background and 1-5 years of relevant experience.

You will have:

Extremely competent C programming skills.
Knowledge of video compression standards including H.264 and MJPEG.
Understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS), e.g. Linux.
Experience of writing and debugging software using Eclipse in a Linux environment.
An understanding of communication protocols from SPI and I2C through to UDP and TCP.
Familiarity with version control systems including git and subversion.
The ability to debug at a low level and be confident using equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analysers.
The ability to read and understand schematics and data sheets as they relate to firmware development.
An understanding of the different types of software testing including regression and unit testing.
The confidence to liaise with other internal staff, e.g. Customer Support Engineers.
The ability to work independently, or as part of a team.
A high standard of written and verbal English communication skills.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (or compatible) applications.

You should also already have the right to live and work in the UK.

For an initial induction period of 6 months, the successful applicant will need to work full-time from our Huntingdon office. After this period, there may be the opportunity for hybrid working.
